About
Hi, I'm Kevin. I'm a software developer in Los Angeles, California. This is my website and it essentially serves the purpose of being whatever I want it to be at the moment. It's changed a few times over the years, but for the most part it's always been a home on the web for random/selected things I'm currently working on or have worked on in the past.I have a long history of playing with computers. It started with me writing all kinds of relatively pointless BASIC games on an Atari 130XE (a later model in Atari's 8-bit family) in the late 80's. I moved on to DOS and Windows programming from there, and it was on these platforms that I started writing things that I could actually refer to as games without feeling guilty afterwards.
Not to say these were amazing works of art, however. For humor's sake, I've included some of my earliest graphics work from a game I wrote in the early 90's, "The Voyage of Ethon". The second screenshot shows that I clearly had an excellent command of the English language at the time; note how I refer to the protagonist in both the second and third person in the same paragraph. Such eloquence!

If you noticed the program name is "VERP" and you're wondering what that is, that would stand for "Voyage of Ethon Run Program". My naming schemes were pretty stupid back then. And speaking of names... where did I come up with a name like "Ethon"? Your guess is as good as mine. The only thing I'm almost sure of is that I was trying to make a title that sounded similar to "The Legend of Zelda," and that's pretty funny.
I'd like to say that the primitiveness of the graphics was due to the hardware limitations of the time, but that's not really true.
I eventually came to terms with the fact that I have the artistic ability of a 5 year old. I also completely abandoned DOS and Windows a LONG time ago and I do all of my wheeling and dealing on computers running the Debian GNU/Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. I work as a software developer for a living and I still occasionally play with programming projects for fun in my spare time.
You're bored with all this computer stuff and you want to hear a some other things about me? Well I hate the cold weather with a passion (I grew up in it), if you asked me for my favorite movie I'd have to say Back to the Future (with Almost Famous being a close second!), and I listen to music constantly and buy CDs all the time (I don't like to purchase music online because I like to own the physical CD). While we're on the topic of music, I also used to go to shows and concerts pretty often, but nowadays it's more of a here and there thing.
Well, thanks for tagging along with me on this very abbreviated journey through my life, focused mostly on just a couple things I've done related to computers. It was a pleasure sharing your company, even with that annoying sound that your nose makes when you breathe.
